The scholar Mohamad Ali El Husseini, participated in the conference of Faith, the Convergence of Consciences, Uniting Spiritual Leaders for the Revival of Planet Earth, which was held in Abu Dhabi on November 6, 2023, organized by COP28.

And the participation of the Council of Muslim Elders.

 

El Husseini presented a scientific working paper entitled “Religious Leaders and their Responsibility in Addressing the Climate Crisis and Their Role in Reviving Planet Earth,” in which he affirmed that God Almighty commanded all of His servants to rebuild and revive the Earth because there they have their livelihood and stability, and he called on them to work in this path, but man deviated from it. God commanded and inspired his immorality to cause corruption and destruction on the planet, which is on the verge of destruction.

 

El Husseini added: This danger has made environmental protection one of the most important topics on the table, and one of the biggest current challenges that occupy the world’s attention to preserve and save the planet. While the great responsibility falls on officials and decision-makers, the greatest burden falls on religious symbols, given their influence and status. In social settings.

 

El Husseini stressed in his paper that the climate crisis cannot be addressed except by activating the role of influential religious figures with effective and serious steps, presenting the required recommendations, the most important of which is issuing fatwas that affirm the prohibition of polluting the environment, and the punishment for that in this world and the hereafter, based on Qur’anic verses and the noble Prophet’s hadith. . As well as emphasizing the provisions of religious laws calling for achieving rational environmental development, highlighting the position of religion on polluting the environment, and calling for the restoration of the earth.

He pointed out the importance of considering nature as God’s blessing to His servants, and attacking its resources, wasting them, and polluting them is a transgression and an attack on the right of future generations, and highlighting the strategy of Islam in protecting the environment through the green project and encouraging planting.

 

At the political level, El Husseini stressed the importance of achieving justice in the distribution of wealth, and providing financial aid to support poor countries to adapt to climate change.

 

At the educational level, the role of educational and cultural institutions must be activated to raise the level of awareness of integrated environmental education and make it a priority in educational programs and the educational system.

 

Mr. Mohamad Ali El Husseini concluded his paper by emphasizing the duty owed by religious leaders to the climate, the environment, and saving the Earth, by presenting the optimal practical Islamic model and finding ways and mechanisms to activate and apply it on the ground to achieve the desired goals and save the planet
